Bag-shaped vase

Inventory number: St 444

Around the body runs a wide horizontal frieze with seven stylised squirrels in different, dynamic poses, on a background of leaves and fir cones. This frieze is bordered by two black bands outlined with ochre slip. Both neck and foot have a frieze, outlined with a black band and ochre lines, and decorated with juxtaposed triangles, each with a stylised half-sun in the middle. The convex neck is emphasised with a triple ochre stripe.

Slip-cast form. Matt enamel decoration traced with ochre slip, filled in with matt chestnut, bluish grey and brown enamel on an ivory-coloured ground. Black enamelled inside.
